Miss Wegrzyniak’s %~) READING DEUS ye tho Many or March SHI Life-Long Readers “WER>> Reading Activities How is reading with your child going? I have truly enjoyed hearing about the books that students are reading both with their classroom ‘teacher and at home! Did you know that children learn more when they make connections between what they hear ina story and what they know? One method you can use to help your child make these connections is with a think aloud, where you talk ‘through your thoughts as you read. A think aloud will help your child fully understand a story. Try these think aloud ideas: |. Connect the book to another book that your child has read. (Example: This story reminds me of Frozen. Both OF the books have sisters in the story!) 2. Connect the book to your child's own life and experiences. (Example: This story reminds me of the time that we went to the beach because...) Play "Making Words” To play this game, cut out and then spread out all of the letters to spell "SPRING BREAK". Then, use the letters to create new words (Example: ring, pig, snack). Try to have your child create as many words as they can. You can also challenge your child to try to create the longest word. Spring Break Reading Challenge Be on the lookout for my Spring Break Reading Challenge. This is an optional activity but I am hopeful that it will encourage all students to read over spring break! I will be handirig out the reading challenge the week before spring reak.
