SUBJECT: Recognition of Battalion Customs and Courtesies Policy

1.Purpose: To teach all cadets the proper Customs and Courtesies when addressing
officers and Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO).
2.Policy: All cadets will stand at attention when addressing or being addressed by all
officers of higher rank. All cadets will stand at parade rest when addressing or being
addressed by an NCO. Cadet will maintain military bearing at all time. When cadets
contact i.e. text, phone or email cadre/cadet leadership they will give them the greeting
of the day as well as their rank. Reference AR 600-20. Cadets in leadership positions
will wear the proper rank while in military/ROTC uniform so other cadets will know their
rank and in order to render the proper customs and courtesies. If cadets in leadership
position fail to follow the policy, they will address the company in its entirety on why
custom and courtesies are important and will be documented on their COER.

3.Failure to comply with this policy will result in four (4) negative offenses;
a) 1st offense: verbal warning
b) 2nd offense: One (1) page paper on Customs and Courtesies,
c) 3rd offense: cadet will carry Customs and Courtesies cards at all time and will
receive a negative counseling by battalion leadership which will be submitted into
that cadet’s folder.
d) 4th offense: negative counseling by cadre which will also be submitted into that
cadet’s folder.

4. All cadets with more than the appropriated offenses (4) on any policy will be
recommended for disenrollment and dropped from the program.
