COMPENDIUM

Ports are a key part of trade infrastructure and in order to enhance product
competitiveness, we have to strengthen the infrastructure of trade, majorly the ports. A
recent report commissioned by the government think tank NITI AAYOG has stated that in
order to achieve the ambitious target of having a 5% share in world exports and to climb up
ranks in ease of doing business, India needs to address its port ecosystem. It has also ranked
13 major ports and one non-major port on the Port Performance Index and we clearly
witness that there has been a drop in the performance level of Paradip Port demarking it as
an average functioning port. Paradip port being one of the busiest ports having an
appreciative cargo handling capacity is presently facing various maintainance as well as
performance issues.

TOPIC:
Ways to mitigate the issues faced in Paradip port in the recent scenario.

PROBLEM STATEMENT:
The various major issues related to Paradip port constitute of port congestion, custom
clearance, regulatory clearance, shipping line issues and charges, documentation and silting
of harbour.

Participants are expected to throw lime light on the causes of these issues and propose
ideas to counter fight these in the most effective manner possible.
