SECONDARY SOURCES PRACTICE ASSIGNMENT

Put the following case name information in correct Bluebook citation form (all cases are being
cited in citation sentences, unless the question indicates otherwise). This exercise focuses on
Rules B15, B16, B12.1.3, 12.9, 15, and 16:

1. “The Tempting of America,” a book published in 1990 by Simon & Schuster, Inc. in
New York. The author is Robert H. Bork. You want to focus your reader’s attention on
page 6.

2. An article by Catharine A. MacKinnon entitled “Vindication and Resistance: A Response


to the Carnegie Mellon Study of Pornography in Cyberspace.” This 1995 article
appeared in volume 83 of the George Washington University Law Review beginning on
page 1959. You wish to direct your reader’s attention to page 1963 of this article.

3. Section 345 of the Second Restatement of Contracts. The volume was published by the
American Law Institute in 1995.

4. An annotation by Kelly R. Garrett entitled “Sexual Discrimination in the Los Angeles


Police Academy.” This annotation appeared in volume 34 of the third A.L.R. series
beginning on page 56. The date of the annotation is 1997, but you are also referring your
reader to the material in the supplement, published in 2006.

5. Volume 36 of the Negligence section of the American Jurisprudence Second Series. The
reference is to section 456, but the reader only needs to look in the supplement, published
in 2005.

6. “Difficult Conversations: How to Discuss What Matters Most,” a book by Douglas Stone,
Bruce Patton, and Sheila Heen, published in 1999 by Viking in New York. Use the
suggested method of citation when more than two authors are listed.

7. A note by Susan Nancy, a student at the Washington College of Law, entitled “Property-
Based Discrimination.” The article was published in 2007 in volume 16 of the Notre
Dame Journal of Law, Ethics and Public Policy. The article begins on page 78.
