Introduction

Business ethics is the study of business policies and values that are practiced

in the organization. It simply talks about how a business should be carried out in

terms of the standards brought by the company. These principles are also used to

guide the business people in decision making and proper operation. Moreover,

ethics is the way of knowing the difference between right and wrong and deciding

what must be done.

Local Literature

According to Roa (2007) business ethics is about setting standards for people,

especially the businessmen, in terms of their moral rules and principles. Business

people will believe that some of their actions are suitable whereas improper for

others. It shows how business ethics can affect the flow of different situations in a

company.

In a study entitled “Developing a Virtue Ethics Scale”, it is stated that the

examined characteristic of the managers in the Philippines can be implied for the

human resource management by which the people are hired in suitable to the

corporate style and will be led along the engagement in the organizational

practice and goals (Racelis, 2013).

According to PwC Philippines (2016) that a draft Code of Corporate

Governance was provided by the Securities and Exchange Commission to assist

companies with their culture of ethics and is recommended to the company’s

board of directors to make and implement a code of business conduct and ethics

that would manage the professional behavior in their association. In my opinion,

the code is a big help for the company that can aid them in implementing

different principles for the benefit of the company

In a study entitled “Corporate Ethics”, it is stated there that the examined

characteristic of the managers in the Philippines can be implied for the human

style and will be led along the engagement in the organizational practice and

goals. (Racelis, 2009)

In a study conducted by Omolewu (n/a), he stated that the Civil Service

Commission of Philippines described any unethical behavior as a restriction to the

law and the existence of the “large gray area” in the company makes it confusing to

determine what is ethical.

Foreign Literature

In a study conducted by Salehi, Saedinia, Aghei (2012), they stated that

tackling business ethics is fundamental to help the company avoid the unethical

corporate operation. For a company to function well, one must know the ethics of

business and its accordance to the success of the organization.

In the same study by Salehi, Saedinnia, Aghei (2012), they presented that the

dilemmas encountered in the field of ethics have become a major concern in the

domestic level in the society. Moreover, one must be knowledgeable not only in the

field of their work but also in the social significance of their decisions in order for

them to be effective.

Synthesis
Business ethics is a big help to the people who are in that certain kind of work

especially in deciding when a situation comes in to the company like social

discrimination in the workplace and governance in the corporation. Also, it ensures

the fair treatment between the people in the business.

Idea 1

The main importance of business ethics is setting standards in the employees

especially the businessmen. Knowing the characteristics of a corporate person will

benefit not only the employees but also the ones hired them, they would have a basis

for the next job application. In addition, a government agency called SEC provided a

code of corporate governance to help the companies in implementing the ethics in the

association.

Idea 2

A business encountering a problem with their ethics can affect the domestic

level in the society. Moreover, there’s a connection between the principle of an

individual and the company’s policy of value. One way to avoid the unethical

operation is to tackle about business ethics and its importance to the company.

Idea 3

Any unethical behavior is prohibited by the law and the existence of “large

gray area” in the company makes it confusing to determine what is ethical.

Conclusion

Business ethics is one of the building blocks in the corporation and when it is

implemented properly there would be unity in the workplace and achieving the

organizational goals wouldn’t be a problem at all. Also, by means of practicing ethics

in business you will set an example to other people by making decisions wisely and

treating them with equal amount of respect.
