ENGLISH

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students shall be able to:

a) Identify unique characteristics of the Japanese culture and history.

b)
Manifest an understanding on what Haiku is through answering thequestions
being asked by the teacher.

c) Describe the characters through double-entry character grid.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

a) Topic: Introduction to Japanese Literature

b) Materials: Afro-Asian Literature Book


Technology Aids: Laptop, Projector, PowerPoint
and speaker.
c) Time Frame: 2 hours

A. Preliminaries

B. Pre-Learning Activities

i. Motivation

Class, before we start with our new lesson, I (Students will watch the video.)
will have you watch a short video.
(teacher will play a short video) Mam there were Japanese in the video,
some information about their culture,
Class, what can you say about the video? literature and some beautiful places in
Japan.

ii. Analysis
For this Activity, you will be grouped by 6.
Each group must have a representative.

This Activity is called 4PICS 1 WORD..

The teacher will introduce the topic by facilitati


ng a game called 4 Pics, 1Woed. The teacher
will show four pictures with rumbled letters to
the students and ask them to guess the hidden
word based on the pictures. Then teacher will
elicit insights from the students about
their schema regarding Haiku.

iii. Discussion

The teacher will be using power point


presentation in giving the lesson. The students will participate during
discussion.

iv. Application (15-20mins)
Students will start writing their Haikus.
Ask students to think of one important moment
in their lives and compose a haiku poem about
it using the guidelines listed on the board.

Line 1: 5 syllables
Line 2: 7 syllables
Line 3: 5 syllables

When all students have finished their haiku


poems, ask them to read and share their haiku
poems with the class.

D. Generalization:

Now that you understand the Japanese Mam I learned that Japanese literature is
Literature, what can you say or about lesson? one of the most important literatures in the
world and that Japanese have built their
buildings and gardens that are big part of
their culture.

What about Haiku? What did you understand Mam it is the shortest form of Japanese
about Haiku? poetry with only 17 syllables, in 3 lines of 5
– 7- 5 arrangement. Mostly, haikus deal
with the appreciation of nature.

Does the form and shortness of haiku poetry make it more or less
