Dragon Storm 2 Complete Character Creation Guide
Dragon Storm 2 Complete Character Creation Guide
0 Starter Deck
With the new modular character creation system in 2.0, you have great flexibility in
creating your character.
Start with the Races, Set 103. There are 11 races in DS 2.0: Canid, Das Karr, Dwarf,
Ebony Elf, Farilan Elf, Foxwings, Human, Orc, Tigrean, Vermite, and Vorn. The Canid
card is shown. The base stats for all races are the same. You will customize your
character as you create it. According to the card, you must choose:
1 Shifter Type card or Latency, unless you chose the Orc race. If so, choose
nothing from this set.
1 Background
3 point of Stat Enhancement cards
Up to 2 Flaws
Up to 2 Traits
Next, choose at Shifter Type, Set 104. There are 9 Shifter Types, plus the Latency card.
The types are: Dragon, Gargoyle, Griffon, Pegasus, Phoenix, Unicorn, Werecat,
Wererat, Werewolf. The Gargoyle is shown. Each type gives a bonus to one stat. The
Gargoyle gives a +1 to DEF. If you choose to delay your choice until later for role
playing purposes, take the Latency card instead. You will trade it later for a Shifter
Type.
Next you will select a Background card from Set 105. There are currently 9
Backgrounds: Barbarian, Escaped Bondsman, Escaped Slave, Farmer, Freeman, Nomad,
Outrider, Rogue, and Scribe Apprentice. The Farmer is shown. Here you will find
information on what your character has been doing up to now, any stat enhancements
or knowledge of other abilities, and your starting gold, with which you’ll buy
equipment.
Now, you will further customize your character with Stat Enhancement, Set 110. There
are cards that enhance a single stat by +1 or by +2, and cards that add +8 or +16 Health
Points. The +1 stat or +8 HP cards cost 1 CP each; the +2 stat or +16 HP cards cost 3 CP
each. You only have 3 points to spend and may not choose any card more than once. So, you may bump 3
individual stats, or a single stat for the 3 points.
You may elect to take a Flaw or two from Set 111. There are currently 9 Flaws: Bad
Reputation, Clumsy, Fear of Bunnies, Fear of Rats, Short Fuse, Ugliness, Unhealthy,
Unobservant, and Weakling. Each Flaw has a penalty as described on the card, but also
grants additional CP with which to create your character. Most Flaws provide role
playing opportunities, so choosing one is often fun. You may choose at most 2 different
Flaws. The Short Fuse Flaw is shown.
Finally, you may choose up to 2 Traits to include with your starting character.
There are 4 sets of Traits cards, Sets 106‐109, which total 36 cards. That is too
many to list here, but all of them provide bonuses in some way. For example,
the Brutish Trait, shown here, provides stat bonuses to STR and CAP, as well as stat minuses to COR
and SPD. This character is large and powerful, but clumsy and slow. Some restrictions may apply if you
have taken any Flaws. These restrictions are on the Flaw or Trait cards, or both. If you are creating a
starting character from just the 2.0 Starter Deck, you will not have access to the Traits and Flaw card
sets unless you purchased them separately.
The rest of the cards with which your character will start are chosen from the other
sets that are available to him/her. If you’re a Shifter, you’ll have access to the Shifter
sets of your type; or, if an Orc, you’ll use the Orc sets, 250 & 251. You may also choose
any other Universal Cards. Universals are in Sets 302, 303, & 318. Your total card points
available include the 20 your race starts with plus any additional earned through Flaws.
The total CP of all cards chosen, including your permanents must equal those total card
points. If you chose to be Clumsy and a Weakling, you would have 30 CP to start. You
may choose any cards available. If you are a Shifter, you must take 1 Form card into
which to shape shift. In order to conserve points, most choose the 1 CP Basic Form.
The 1 CP Dragon form is shown.
Now that you’re doing choosing cards, you may now take the Novice Lifeline from the Lifelines Set 101. The
Lifeline cards will track the growth of your character and provide bonuses over time, changing at the
appropriate number of CP listed on the card. It also shows your Lifeline Bonus and the cost in RP of adding
another CP to your character.
Now, you may use part or all of your starting Gold Pieces to buy equipment. All normal equipment is available.
You should check with your GM/Warden if you desire a Magic Item or something unusual, to make certain it is
available.
Finally, you’ll have a Character Record Sheet on which to record pertinent information about your character.
All of the cards you’ve chosen so far are Permanent cards. If you look below
the picture, or under the title on cards without a picture, there is a P. That
means permanent. These cards permanently become part of your character.
The rest of the cards just sit on the table ready for use, as needed. So, take
your Permanents and arrange them so your Race card is on top, with the rest
of them placed underneath the Race card, leaving the right side stat row
visible for each subsequent card. The stats will line up to make them easy to
add. Continue with the rest of your cards until they are all arranged so that
you can see all of the stats, like the example here.
Now that you have everything done, you can fill out your Character Record sheet. Your GM will help you with
that.
Write your character’s name where it says Name.
Your name where it says Player.
Record your Race and Shifter Type, if applicable.
You choose your Gender, Male or Female.
Your age must be 16‐20; again, your choice.
Your Card Points are the 20 your race started with plus your Flaw bonuses.
You don’t have any Role Playing Points yet. That’s experience.
LLB is your Lifeline Bonus. As a Novice, your LLB is 1 (one).
Your base move is calculated by your SPD. If SPD is zero, your base move is 60 ft. Each point
above zero get you and extra 10 ft. So, if your total SPD now is 2, your base move is 80 ft.
Boons will be covered later, as will Bloodlines.
T Od, T Warp, and T Waste are your Taint Defense numbers. They are on your shifter card or
Orc card, depending on which you chose to be. These numbers provide bonuses to damage
taken from Warped, Od, or Wasted Terrain, as well as damage from sources based on those
types.
You start with 10 Food Rations, and 10 Water Rations.
Add your total in each Stat from your Permanents and list it in the Base column of the Stat
table. Then, if you’re a Shifter, look at the bonuses to each stat when you’re in shifted form.
Add these to your Base stats and list them in the 2nd column. Above it, you can write 1PF for
One Point Form, or PF for Prime form, etc.
Add up the gold pieces you spent buying equipment and subtract this from your starting gold.
Write this where it says Gold.
The example below shows a completed character record sheet. The back of the sheet is for notes. You
may write a brief description of your character and his/her background and life here, if you wish. Now,
all you need are two 6‐sided dice, and you’re ready to play. Have fun!
