Prematurity is defined as babies born alive occurring before or during 37 weeks of pregnancy.

Prematurity or preterm birth is the substantial problem which we had to faced because it could effect
many abominable impact in the health matters, psychology, and socio-economic. In terms of health,
prematurity is associated with morbidity and mortality causes in newborn babies. One of the factor
which predispose incidence of premature is pregnancy at high risk maternal age less than 20 years. This
research intend to discover how big the risk of prematurity incidence in pregnant women at high risk
maternal age less than 20 years. The research design which is used to discover this case is observational
analysis through case control research method. Sample is selected by purposive sampling technique.
Amount of 260 sample research were taken from medical record of mothers who gave birth in the
Ngasem territory of the district bojonegoro health centers working area 2015, there is 130 premature
baby borm as case group and 130 aterm baby born as control group. The research result was analysed
using univariate analysis and bivariate analysis with hypothesis testing in the form of chi-square test
along with calculation of odd ratio (OR) (p value = 0,003; OR = 2,818) noted that there is correlation
between pregnant women at high risk maternal age (< 20 years) with prematurity incidence in newborn
babies in the Ngasem territory od the district bojonegoro health center working are. Based on this
research, it is recommended for prospective mother to prepare their wanted pregnancy at reproductive
or conception age which appropriate to avoid the risk of prematurity in newborn babies so that
morbidity and mortality rate in newborn babies can be reduced.
