Health Sciences Centre at Kuwait University, dealing with a neurological sleep disorder.
As you scan, find the following information:
1. What is hypocretin?
Hypocretin is a neuropeptide that regulates arousal, wakefulness, and appetite. The
most common form of narcolepsy, in which the sufferer briefly loses muscle tone
(cataplexy), is caused by a lack of orexin in the brain due to destruction of the cells
that produce it.
2. What is hypersomnia?
Hypersomnia is a condition in which you feel excessive sleepiness during the day. It
may occur even after long stretches of sleep. Another name for hypersomnia is
excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS).Hypersomnia can be a primary condition or a
secondary condition. Secondary hypersomnia is the result of another medical
condition. People with hypersomnia have difficulty functioning during the day
because they’re frequently tired, which can affect concentration and energy level.
3. What is another name for hypnagogic hallucinations?
The another name for hypnagigyc hallucinations is sleep paralysis
4. What is the full name for an ECG?
ECG is Electrocardiogram
5. What is the full name for an EEG?
EEG is Elektroensefalogram
6. What is an MSLT?
MSLT (Multiple Sleep Latency Test) is a tests for excessive daytime sleepiness by
measuring how quickly you fall a sleep in a quiet environment during the day. Also
known as a day time nap study, the MSLT is the standard tool used to diagnose
narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia.
7. What type of drug is Ritalin?
Rintalin is included in the Methylphenidate drug type
Methylphenidate belongs to a class of drugs known as stimulants
8. What type of drug is Prozac?
Prozac (fluoxetine) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) antidepressant.
