Franklin College

My favorite albums of the year

Franklin Audio Productions

Franklin College

Chelmsford Avenue

Grimsby

DN34 5BY
Name or title of programme:
My favourite albums of 2017
Planned broadcast:
This programme will be played annually, between Christmas and new years. This is
because the show can be seen as a sort of ‘round up’ of the best new albums released
over the year. There will also be an interview with a musician, where we will discuss
some of his favorite albums and inspirations from 2017.

Length of show:
The length of the show will be roughly 40 minutes.

Genre or type of programme:

As the music played will be a collection of albums from 2017, there will be various
genres played throughout the programme.

Brief description / synopsis:

My programme will be structured throughout, with limited conversation topics that
doesn’t regard music.

Production method (live, recorded, mix of):

The programme will be recorded. This is so I can re-record parts if I make a mistake
during the recording. If I was to record live and then make a mistake, there is no way of
correcting.

Target audience (preferred station, time, and demographics):

My target audience will be, mostly, adults aged from 23-55. This is because a lot of the
artists and genres played will appeal to this audience. Also most of the conversations
and topics will be regarding the things that teens or elderly people would not be
interested in.

Ideal presenter(s) (to give an idea of style):

The ideal presenter would be Iggy Pop who does a show every friday evening called
‘Iggy Confidential’ on 6 Music. This is because his show is a similar length to mine, it is
also made up of song that he likes and has chosen, as well as the fact it is aired at a
similar time to mine. Also, similar to my programme, he talks about the artist, albums
and things he has experienced in the past (regarding music). He has also been known
to interview people on his show.
Delivery style: Formal/ Colloquial

I plan to do my show with limited scripting, because I work better without a script. I will
have point which I plan to include and the question I plan to ask in the interview.
I will still try to keep formal with my presenting style as thing is what my listeners would
expect.

Resources required

Human: Presenters / Production Team / Guests

The only people required is me (to present), Lewis Martin (guest) and production team.

Equipment:
I will need basic radio recording equipment as well as the editing software.

Location:
I will need to book out a studio.

Production time (recording and editing):

The show should take around 90 minutes to record, to amend mistakes if they are
made.
The editing should roughly take a week. This is because I need to tweak anything that
went wrong, add in the music and then listen through it all.

Examples of questions and issues to be raised for interviews:

During the interview section of the programme I will ask the interviewee questions such
as:
1. What artists have inspired your music?
2. What have your favourite albums of the year been?
3. Why?
4. If you could choose a someone to see live (dead or alive) who would it be?

Examples of Vox Pops / other actuality to be used:

During the intro to some 6 music programmes the some DJ’s speak over some
background music. This is so the listener does not get bored of the DJ’s voice. I will also
include various short noises to keep the listener entertained.
Styles of music to be used (e.g. titles/jingles and soundbeds):

There are various kinds of music throughout the programme, but they are all songs that
I have heard on 6 Music throughout the year.

For the programme I plan to not have that many jingles and soundbeds. I will include
things such as fades from songs and introductions to different parts of the show.

Budgeting information

As 6 Music is a BBC station, it is a public service remit. A public service remit is content
which has been funded through TV licences, for the purpose of informing, educating or
entertaining people. Also, being a BBC station, there is no income from advertising.

6 Music has around 2,400,000 listeners (for the time my programme will be on). This
means they have to pay considerable royalties to the creators of the content (for my
show the people who have written the music). As 6 Music has such a high listener
count, they would be likely to pay the highest royalty fee of around 5.25% of the net
broadcasting revenue (over £1,459,451).

The estimated pay for my shows presenter is roughly £200,000-£250,000 a year. This is
based on the pay of 6 Music DJ Mark Radcliffe. In the past year there has been
annoyance towards how much the BBC, with how much they pay some presenters. Due
to this, it is likely that presenters wages will decrease in the near future.
