The ICT Tools I have used in my lessons.

The overall aim of my lessons is that students will be able to use Book Creator

to design a house using one shape and describe the features of this shape. In

order to achieve this students must learn to “recognise and classify familiar

two-dimensional shapes using obvious features” (ACMMG022).

I have chosen to use Kahoot, QR codes, Google word document and

AnswerGarden to revise familiar shapes and as an introduction to the features

of these shapes. These ICT tools are highly engaging and in order for students

to learn, engagement is paramount. The visual aspect of these tools will help

students with low levels of literacy and those who are visual learners. Kahoot

is a great revision tool as it reinforces shape recognition and allows students

to track their progress. QR codes will allow students to work independently

and enable students to access youtube videos of shape features and different

house designs quickly and efficiently. AnswerGarden is also used to help

students review and reflect on their learning, as it highlights key words and

allow students to see other student responses. AnswerGarden also caters for

SAER and G&T students as they can write one word to 20-character

responses.

Google word doc, AnswerGarden and MagicDraw facilitate learning through

student interaction. I have used MagicDraw in a barrier game as this will

enable students to develop their listening skills and focus on the key features

of the shape. Google word doc allows students to classify their environmental

shapes, easily see differences between shapes and view other students’

responses.

I believe the main learning tool in my project has been Book Creator because

it gives the students an opportunity to apply their learning in a creative

manner. Using these shapes to design a house encourages students to focus

on the features of these shapes and reinforces their classification. For

instance, even though the shape is a different size or colour it is still classified

as that shape because of its distinguishable features. Book creator also allows

students to summarise their learning through describing the features and

listening to other students’ descriptions.
