Dear Parents and Guardians of Crofton Elementary,

My name is John Lofto, and I’m a student teacher from Vancouver Island University. I’m
on practicum at Crofton Elementary, where I’ll be embedded with the grade 7’s and also
teaching music with other classes. I’m very much looking forward to developing my teaching
skills and giving the best possible educational experience to all the students with whom I work.

Some background information: I’m from Cowichan Bay, and graduated from Cowichan
Secondary School in 2009. I studied at Vancouver Island University, where I earned my
Bachelor’s degree with a double minor in Mathematics and Earth Sciences. I’ve studied and
participated in music for much of my life, and have intimate knowledge of piano, voice, and
guitar. I’m currently residing in the Cowichan Valley, where I spend some of my free time
playing board games and hiking with my family. I’m currently in the second semester of a three
semester Post-Baccalaureate Elementary Education Degree program at VIU.

My educational credo is to bring joy and engagement to anything I teach. I implement

games and other interesting activities in order to have students best participate with exuberance
and excitement. I’ll be giving the students lessons that emphasize development in creativity,
inquiry, and critical thinking processes

Starting on April 9th, I’ll be teaching daily for five weeks, ending on May 11th. I will be
teaching from 50% to 75% of the lessons during this period, and supervising students during
routine activities.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions, questions, or concerns by contacting
me through my email below.

Thank you for your time,

John Lofto
