Professional Development Plan

As of February 1, 2018, I have been the Head Librarian at Charlotte Christian College and
Theological Seminary. I would like to remain in this position for 3-5 years if at all possible, therefore my
professional goals have much more to do with networking, and expanding my skillset and knowledge
base than in climbing any sort of vocational ladder.

Year One:

 Become acclimated to a new position, work environment, and city.

 Work on building connections with other local information organization professions, through
association memberships (I am a member of ACL and ATLA).
 Attend one professional conference (probably the ACL conference in July).

Year Two:

 Move my library to a new location. The college I work for is relocating at the end of this year.
 Move into an adjunct position. One of the professors at CCCTS has already approached me
about teaching a class or two in his department. I have always loved teaching, and that is a line
of work I would like to pursue.
 Establish myself as a contributing book reviewer for our ATLA Consortium.

Year Three:

 Become involved in the TRACS accreditation process in order to boost my CV.

 Attend regular workshops on how to advance our library technologically.
 Perhaps take on more instruction responsibilities.

Year Four:

 Become more involved in our Consortium, perhaps taking on some kind of leadership role such
as secretary.
 Attend an ATLA sponsored conference.
 Maintain relationship with my professional mentor and fellow librarian, Ron Jordahl, at
Southern Evangelical Seminary.

Year Five:

 Having cultivated my professional network, and built up my CV, year five would probably be a
good time to start looking around for other employment opportunities which promise
professional growth.
