3 METHODOLOGY:

Wash round bottom flask and sampling bottles with water and then rinse off thoroughly with
methanol. Take 0.174 gm of 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1H-imidazole measured by analytical balance
and put it into round bottom flask. Now take 1ml syringe and measure 0.1ml of 2-
chloropropane through it and put it into flask. From both of the reagent take some excess
quantity of 2-chloropropane upto 0.2ml. Mix the contents of the flask gently and then put a
magnetic stirrer into the flask to provide continuous stirring. Now clamp flask with the iron
stand and place it on a hot plate stirrer. The air condenser should be attached upon the flask in
order to avoid release of vapors of 2-chloropropne from the flask as it is a volatile component
having boiling point of 35°C. Through electric current hot plate stirrer provides heat as well as it
also moves the magnetic stirrer inside the flask to produce continuous stirring. The reaction is
carried out at room temperature for about 5-7 days.

Same procedure is followed on another flask for observing the preparation time taken by ionic
liquid.

Both the samples was observed at different times by TLC (Thin Layer Chromatography).

Method

 Take 0.174 gm of 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1H-imidazole

 0.1ml of 2-chloropropane through it and put it into flask

 Put the both reagents in the flask with a magnetic stirrer into the flask to provide
continuous stirring

 Take the sample after specific time
