Advanced Piping Products (APP) ProTek Composite Wear Pads
And Epoxy
Technical Data November, 2014
Product Description - Wear Pad
APP ProTek Wear Pads can be made to any pipe size and to any degree of coverage
required. It is made to fit perfectly flush with the O.D. of the pipe. The inner diameter of
the Wear Pad has a profile that matches NACE 1 SSPC-SPS coating specification so
that during installation the epoxy has a premium surface to anchor to.
The APP ProTek Wear Pad is made of a brominated vinyl ester resin that offers a high
degree of fire retardance while providing the excellent chemical resistance and
toughness required in the industry. It is resistant to a wide range of acids, alkalis,
bleaches and organic compounds used in chemical processing industry applications.
The resin used resists mechanical and chemical damage which makes it ideal for use in
various caustic environments such as sodium hypochlorite, chlorine dioxide and alkaline
hydrogen peroxide. It contains only 35 percent styrene, resulting in reduced styrene
emissions. The resin has also been certified to meet ASTM E-84 flame spread “Class 2”
rating (less than 75).
UV degradation of APP ProTek Wear Pads is typically a cosmetic issue; however, we
add UV inhibitors to our resin to increase the UV resistance. The Inhibitor is a light
stabilizer that protects resin from long-term degradation effects from ultraviolet light.
