These numbers are shown on the serial number plate mounted on the engine. Caterpillar dealers need all of these numbers to determine which components were included on the engine when it was assembled at the factory. This permits accurate identification of replace- ment part numbers. ORDERING Quality Caterpillar Replacement parts are available from Caterpillar dealers PARTS: throughout the world. Their parts stocks are up to date and include all Parts normally required to protect your investment in Caterpillar engines. Some dealers may have exchange/remanufactured parts available as an option. When ordering parts, your order should specify the quantity, part number, part name and the serial number, ai ment number and modification number of the engine for which the parts are needed. If in doubt about the part number, please provide your dealer with a complete description of the needed item. HOW TO USE THE Caterpillar Parts PARTS BOOK Books include il- lustrations of the groups or assemblies which make up the en- gine. These illustrations show the standard components plus many of the attachments available for the engine. The alphabetical index located in the front part of the book should be used to determine the page number on which specific illustra- tions are shown. Reference to those pages will identify each of the individual serviceable parts. Captions The caption under each illustra- tion identifies the part number and name of the group or assembly shown. If more than one illustration is included for any group, the caption identifies the specific en- gine serial numbers to which each illustration applies. in some cases it is not possible to Getermine the specific engine serial numbers to which different illustrations are applicable. In those cases the caption identifies the illus- tration as “First Type’, “Second Type’, ete. Reference to the actual group or assembly is, necessary in those cases to determine which illustration should be used. Captions provide additional information such as page numbers where illustrations of sub assemblies are shown. information regarding quantities used, and other information in- tended to assist the user in determining parts needs. indented Within each illustration is a Part Names _ parts list identifying each ser- viceable part in the illustra- tion. COOLANT CONDITIONER ELEMENTS ... Conveniently prevents corrosion, cavitation and erosion in cooling system ‘Custom nefits: Protects against cavitation, foam, corrosion and scale build-up © Provides measured cooling conditioner Description: Coolant conditioner is now available in spin-on type elements for all diesel engines. The elements contain a dry corrosion inhibitor which dissolves in the coolant. The in- hibitor protects against cavitation, corrosion, foam and scale, reducing and eliminating pitting of cylinder liner surfaces and cylinder blocks. This protection extends the life of cylinder liners, blocks and water pumps. ‘Two types of coolant conditioner elements are available, a “precharge” element and maintenance element. These elements contain a premeasured amount of inhibitor, which is distributed into the cooling system. When correctly used, the precharge element will keep the cooling system inhibitor at an acceptable level during the first service interval after the system is filled with new coolant. The “maintenance” element is used to keep the inhibitor at the correct level in the system after the first (precharge) ser- vice interval. Coolant conditioner elements should be changed at every oil change interval. The entire coolant system should be drained and flushed every two years or 4,000 hours of operation. Note: The coolant conditioner elements can be used with any ethylene glycol type anti- freeze, but must not be used with Dowtherm 209 Full-Fill Coolant. Presently, no corro- sion inhibitor is available for addition to a cooling system with Dowtherm 209 Full-Fill.
