Quesion 22
Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow.

One evening, a man was walking along the beach. Soon, he saw something strange. There

were many starfish littered on the sand. Perhaps, the low tide of the sea had carried them to the

shore and left them behind.

The man walked very cautiously so as not to step on any of them. The animals seemed to

be alive. He thought he would pick up some of them and put them back into the water. He knew

that the starfish would die if left on the beach. Then, he realised that he could not possibly help

all of them, so he chose to do nothing. He continued walking away.

A little further down the beach, he saw a small girl. She was hurriedly throwing one

starfish after another back into the sea. The man stopped and asked the girl, “What are you

doing?”

“I’m saving the starfish,” the child answered.

“Why are you wasting your time?” he said. “There are so many of them. You can’t save all, so

how does it matter?” argued the man. The child remained silent and continued with what she was

doing. Then suddenly she turned around and walked to the man. “Yes, it does matter. It matters

to this one,” the child explained. She picked up another starfish and hurled it back into the water.

The man felt ashamed. He called out to the other people on the beach. They all joined the young

girl in her efforts and all the starfish were saved.

Each night I tuck you into bed,

I brush my hand across your head,
And in each tiny little fist
I place a magic mummy kiss.

Full of love and hope so bright

To keep you safely through the night,
Mummy kisses in your hand
To guide you off to slumber land.

If you should dream of monsters mean
