Could it occur again?

Holocaust Memorial Day reflects on the past, but is foremost a call to avoid
such tragedies in the future. The line said in 2007 is “Same but Different”.
This warns and alerts us to the danger of our surrounding. If this holocaust
occurred again in the 20th and 21st centuries then anyone could be affected by
such an event. Many historians struggle to determine Hitler’s political views.
Hitler’s way of life and approach to life were often adapted to need and
circumstance. He clearly addresses themes such as anti-semitism, anti-
communism, anti-parliamentarianism.

He personally claimed that he was fighting against Jewish Marxism. In 1934,

Hitler became the Germany’s head of state. Anti-Semitic laws were introduced
which highly discriminated Jewish people living in the areas he controlled.
Jewish children couldn’t attend school, keep pets or have a bicycle. The Nazi’s
strongly believed that Jews were a problem to society and decided that they
needed to be exterminated. The mass killings of the Holocaust that Hitler
referred to as “The Final Solution”.

He wanted to enlarge Germany so he invaded neighbouring countries and

conquered them. Germans and non-Germans were sent to concentration
camps. This is known as ethnic cleansing. The Nazi party were able to
perform such actions as not many of the population stood up to them.

Germany seized Austria and Czechoslovakia in 1938 and 1939. Hitler made a
nonaggression pact with Joseph Stalin and invaded Poland in September
1939. This launched World War II in Europe. With alliance with Italy and
smaller states, Germany conquered most of Europe by 1940 and threatened to
seize the United Kingdom. A large amount of Europe was destroyed during
World War II. Europe needed to be rebuilt. The United States helped Europe
to recover by creating a Marshall Plan. This was named after George Marshall.
The plan offered to help and provide finances to European countries to order
to survive in World War II. The plan was successful in creating strong
European countries.

In the beginning of World War II, Germany had advantage, economically, over
its opponents. Adolf Hitler earlier took a portion of Germany’s economic
region to produce the weaponry needed for the war. Germany started to collect
large amounts of raw material for creating machines for war. Iron was used for
harvesting.
