To Whom It May Concer:
This letter is to strongly recommend Sean Rogers for a secondary social studies teaching position. Ihave
known Sean for the past three years as his professor and major advisor. Sean is an energetic teacher with
excellent people skills and a réal knack for what works with kids.
During his student teaching experience at Coventry High School Sean established himself as a teacher who
ctafis creative lessons, relates well to students, and reflects on his practice to adjust for flaws. He clearly
understands both the theoretical and practical aspects of lesson design and classroom management and will
do well in his first year of teaching, This year he intemed at a school and muscum in England forthe fall
and is now at Manchester High School in Connecticut for the spring. His British placements in particular
necessitated a keen sense of cultural understanding, tact, and creativity, For those of us who know him it
‘was no surprise that Sean excelled. In Sean's evaluation one of his intern supervisors reported that: “Sean
has been absolutely outstanding in his work with the team, and impressive in every respect” while his other
supervisor said: “He is highly professional in approach and has engaged students in his lessons.”
Sean is dedicated to the profession of teaching and understands the value of continued professional growth
He completely embraces his role as a student and teacher of social studies — and he does this ata level that
is rare for a pre-service teacher. This passion to be a good teacher is why I chose Sean to be a teaching
assistant for my social studies methods courses. Sean is working with pre-service teachers in the first year
of our teacher education program, mentoring them on how to write lessons, planning class activities, and
leading class discussions. Similar to his work with secondary students, Sean has excellent rapport with the
students, a strong presence in the classroom, and a great deal of maturity.
‘As a person Sean is full of energy and always is asking questions to improve his understanding. This
curiosity is what makes him both a good student and a good teacher. He gets along well with colleagues and
often provides leadership when collaborating with others. It has been a pleasure to be his advisor. He will
‘make a great team member of any social studies department
| strongly recommend Sean for a social studies teaching position. Please feel free to contact me with any
questions
Sincerely,
