Topic: The Mats by Francisco Arcellana
Materials: Video Clip, worksheets
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students shall have:
1. Arranged the events of the story in correct order;
2. Explained their own understanding of the story;
3. Performed a presentation about the life lessons of the story and;
4. Realized the connection of the story to real-life situations.
ENGAGEMENT
 The students will be asked to answer these questions orally.
 Have you received gifts from your family? How did you feel about it?
EXPLORATION
 The class will be divided into 4 groups.
 Each group will be given papers that contain disarranged events of the story.
 The task of each group is to arrange the events of the story within 10 mins.
 The teacher will check if the events are arranged in correct order.
 Each group will read the story with the correct order of events.
EXPLANATION
 To clearly understand the story, the teacher will present the story through a
video and add some inputs about it.
 After that, the students will be asked to explain their own understanding,
analysis and interpretations of the story.

ELABORATION
 The teacher will discuss the importance of the Filipino family culture.
 The students will be asked what are the life lessons they can get from the
story.
EVALUATION
 Students will stay at their previous groups.
 Each group will be tasked to do role playing.
 Each group will going to act out the situation given by the teacher.
 Group 1- Giving Gifts to the Family
 Group 2- Having dinner with the family
 Group 3- Remembering our loved ones who passed away.
 Group 4- Respect for the elders.
