Olivia completed her teacher assisting assignment in a 2" grade general education class under my supervision. The
majority of students inthis urban classroom were second language leamers and all were of low socioeconomic
backgrounds,
In the domain of Planning and Preparation Olivia demonstrated a solid understanding of content knowledge. She
as actively engaged in the planning process and prepared lessons that reflected an understanding of student
prerequisite knowledge. Most instructional goals were clear and valuable in their level of expectations and the
Jessons included differentiated instruction and a consistent level of student engagement was demonstrated.
livia was successful in creating an environment of respect and rapport. She has made an authentic connection with
the students. The students trust and respect her as their teacher. They respond to Olivia’s guidance and suggestions
and accept her insistence of work of high quality and effort. The management of instructional groups and transitions
proved to be an area of growth for Olivia. As she developed her pacing and engagement techniques, more students
‘were engaged and transitions occurred smoothly. Student behavior is appropriate under Olivia's management.
In the implementation of instruction, Olivia's directions and procedures are clear and contain an appropriate level of
detail, Her spoken and written language is correct and expressive, with well chosen vocabulary that enriches the
lesson, Questioning and discussion techniques are bridging toward the quality needed for consistent levels of
‘engagement. Oliva atively participated in the areas of creating activities and assignments, developing learning
targets, and grouping of students.
Olivia does reflect on her performances and makes adjustments to increase the effectiveness of her instruction. She
has a talent for developing and differentiating lessons, promoting student engagement, and is developing her
classroom management skills. Olivia has made an effort to communicate with parents by being available to respond
to parent concerns and needs. She is active in serving students and contributes to the grade level team by
participating in grade evel planning.
Olivia has several strengths but her main strength, from my observation, is her ability to motivate students. She
always seemed sincerely interested in their progress and presented materials in a way that captured their attention.
For example, Olivia developed a lesson on prefixes. Most ofthe lesson involved hands on activities which raised the
level of engagement. When designing a lesson, Olivia took into consideration the varying levels ofthe students?
‘background knowledge and skills and attempted to differentiate her delivery of instruction. She also leamed thatthe
best way to manage a classroom isto keep students on-task with lessons that are both interesting and challenging.
She also did a good job of recognizing when a student needed special assistance or attention.
