Rationale

Improvement of the performance of the students is one of the goals in

education. It is important to realize the objectives and competencies towards

learning through assessing the strength, weaknesses of the identified topics in

Society and Culture namely Understanding Filipino Society in terms of: Family,

Education, and Religion; Distinguishing Traditional from Popular Values; and

Evaluating Filipino Values at work in solving societal problems (Filipino Family

Problems, Education Problems, and Religion Problems). Through the K to 12

curriculum specifically in Social Sciences, contextualization and localization of the

topics are very much important in this endeavor to attain the 21 st century skills

guided with the Society and Culture competencies. Furthermore, this contextualized

instruction activities could be a great help for the students as the primary beneficiary

of better transferring learning specifically in Society and Culture.

Activities Description

The contextual teaching and learning activities can be done inside and outside

the classroom. The activities included games, problem solving by group,

simultaneous interaction among students, creative activities and real-life activities.

These classroom activities were effective in Society and Culture specifically in solving

societal problems in regards with the family, education and religion.

Objectives

The output of the study aims to address the contextualization and localization

of the content topics of Society and Culture instruction as perceived by the

respondents and as an awareness in appreciating Filipino Culture in regards with the


family, education and religion and academic freedom in general. The weaknesses

were based on the weak points identified by the researcher from the indicators used

in the appraisal of this study.
