Dear Parent/Guardian:

Your child has chosen to participate at the NYSSMA (New York State Schools Music
Association) Solo Festival this year! This is a wonderful opportunity for music students to
showcase their talents in front of an adjudicator. At solo festivals, students are given a
performance evaluation that involves playing a graded solo from the NYSSMA Manual, playing
scales (instruments only) and sight reading.

Students attire should be similar to concert dress. Students will also need to pack a lunch for the
day. You are invited to attend the festival and sign them out after their audition. Mrs. Trombley
and I will be taking students and equipment in school vans to and from Beekmantown. Times for
departure and return are TBD. Students will have more information regarding the exact time and
location of their performance in April.
