To whom it may concern,

With interest to a new-graduate RN position, I would like to outline my qualifications and
experiences that have established my competence and work ethic. Through life experience, I have had
immense exposure to the world of nursing in all its forms. This exposure sparked the decision to expand
my knowledge through employment at Wellspan Gettysburg Emergency Department. As my
employment solidified my goals of becoming a health care provider, I made the decision to enroll into
Carroll Community College’s Nursing Program, from which I will graduate in May of 2018.

Recounting my personal experience, I think back to grade school when I was first exposed to
nursing. My cousins who lived with developmental disabilities, had been receiving in-home care and
there compassionate nurse taught me first hand what nursing is about. As I began middle school, my
father began his fight against lung cancer. It was then, I learned what hospice care entailed and later,
that it was an area of nursing that would hit too close to home for me. While watching my mother and
brother cope with the loss of my father, I developed an understanding of the importance of mental
health care and how it is a largely underserved community. I would later experience profound loss as
both my Mother and brother committed suicide as a result of losing my father. As years have gone by
since these losses, I have been able to reflect on these experiences and they have become what drives
the compassionate care I give today.

Along with my personal experiences, I have had four years of experience at Wellspan Gettysburg
Emergency Department. While holding a dual employment role as a night-shift Nursing Assistant and
Unit Secretary, I have developed a work ethic to keep up with the high demands of an Emergency
Department. At Gettysburg, our Emergency Department treats a variety of patients. While Gettysburg
Emergency Department is not a trauma center, over the years I have cared for trauma patients that
have brought themselves to our facility. With these experiences and my degree through Carroll
Community College, I have developed a level of competence to function safely and efficiently as a
registered nurse.

Thank you for your time,
Bethany Romberger
