Please explain. This ration has helped me broaden my crical thinking skis on the medical surgical unt and subacute care Unit With my experiance inthe ER I had that mindset that you stabilze the patient then send them to another Unit or discharge them home. There ist much continuity of care in the ER setting. With this rotation! was able {o look at the long frm problems a patient may have and whal they may face aftr they are no longer in my care, Now even with my work in the ER as a tech, lam thinking about nursing diagnoses for mobilly, home ‘safety and education defets some of our patients may face upon discharge. Whereas before once they were tischarged from the ER I may not have been as concerned as | am now. At one point | had adopted @ typical ‘mentally of the RNs | worked with, Our RN's in the ER have a tendency to group certain patents and make Judgments prio o assessments. IYeel this rotation has opened my eyes and gave me the ability io be an independent thinker despite the preseure lo conform to my coworkers opinions. In seeing the different kind of care that is provided on other units | feel | was able to understand my personal values better and in tur this has helped me to not just provide care but genuinely care. The debriefing topics also helped me to evaluate the values I want to have. think this contributed to the eye opening experience as wel Which objective did you accomplish during this rotation? How did you doit? ‘Based off of my response to the fst question | esl | have improved my therapeutic communication sks and being culturally senetive with my patents. I want my patients to know that what matters to them matters to me, ‘Thai culture isnot only what has developed them into the person they are but isa topic that hits close to home and can have emotional impacts that create a domino effect in ther health. To do my job effectively 1 ‘ged to respect what is important o my patients. We all have diferent perceptions and I think there is | opportunity for growth when you are able to put aside preconceptions or personal beliefs and experience ‘another person's point of view. In doing this you are also establishing trust with your patents and may be able {a provide betterimore appropriate care. What are your gosls for your next clinical rotation? For the next clinical rotation | want to ry to have my paperwork near completion by the end ofthe day. In my first term I had the understanding that the paperwork was something to be done once you got home which at that point | would think about my nursing Dx, Interventions and outcomes for my patients. This term | understand that itis more appropriate to form nursing Dx atthe beginning of your shift on your patients because it iuly does drive your care, Some ofthe cinical days | was abe to do this and just had to transfer My Approved 44 Revd YNan014 012015 Carroll Community College Division of STEM, Nursing and Allied Health Department of Nursing NURS 140 ~ Nursing Concepts 2 SUMMATIVE Student Clinical Performance Evaluation ;papetwork (0 electronic form when | got home. | would like to be able to do this for every clnical experience {rom this point on since itis more realistic to nursing practice. Also | want to install Microsoft office on my home ‘computer so itis easier to transfer my paperwork and gat in on time. During this rotation | had to eiher go lo the school Ibrary and rush to get it done or tr to squeeze it in at work which is not ideal and sometimes | \would end up losing my work I had done and having lo hand wie iar | put so mach time into typing it up. ‘would use the scanning option more often but | tend fo write thoughts down wherever I can it them and my. hand writing is rather aul so | don't feel comfortable submiting it Hahaha Those are things I can change for the next rotation so I can be the nursing student | want to be. Thank you for this cinical experience itwas uly 2 pleasure to Work in our group. | looked forward o it despite having lo get up at 4am hahaha Faculty Comments! Sethany my goal for you during this ctinical rotation was for you to care for two patients and administer ‘medication. Each week you were able to provide care to your palais. You were able to incorporate your ursing skl from your previous clinical experience into these lat six weeks, Each week you were required to ‘ive the instructor report using SBAR for each one of your palents. This was successfully done, ! am glad that you were able to look atthe patient through a holistic approach, Remember that each patient should have a nursing diagnosis and discharge planning created as soon as they come ino the hospital. | always romember thal there was something that brought them to the hospital. Our goal as healttare professionals is toy and {el nem back to their optimal level of heath. wish you much suceass in your nursing career. ‘Student Signatur Instructor Signature; | Takemma Winchester MSN, RN.
