Elementary Interim 2 Benchmark Assessments

During the month of January, all elementary students participated in our Interim 2 Benchmark
Assessments. The Interims are standards-based assessments that are part of our new English Language
Arts/ English Language Development adoption. This is the first year we are administering the
assessments and there are four interims that will be given throughout the year. Interim 1 and Interim 4 are
the same assessment and will serve as a long-cycle assessment to monitor students’ proficiency over time.
Interims 2 and 3 will serve as our progress monitoring, medium-cycle assessments and support instruction
and intervention.

The baseline assessment, Interim 1, was given during the first month of school and was compared to
Interim 2. Elementary Educational Services had the opportunity to dig into the data and we are pleased
with the progress teachers and students are making in the first few units of implementation. Teachers’
perseverance and dedication to intentional lesson design and making the shifts in our program are very
reflective in our overall scores. The Interim 2 scores represent all English Language Arts standards
assessed during the first three units of implementation. When compared to the baseline scores in Interim
1, it is clear to see teachers are reducing the numbers of students in each of the Red and Orange bands,
and growing students in the Green and Yellow bands. Although this an overview of our results, we see
teachers making strides in moving students towards proficiency (Green bands). All elementary sites will
have the opportunity to dig deeper into the data during their individual site data team meetings.
