Assignment – Nozzle Design Tool

Problem Statement:

Create a nozzle preliminary design tool (Excel or Matlab) to conduct basic 1D nozzle design from basic
input that includes:

- inlet total pressure, temperature, and Mach Number

- exit static pressure,
- specific heat ratio and molecular weight,
- mass flow rate, and
- efficiency:

The tool should deliver the following:

1. Comprehensive h-s diagram

2. Complete thermodynamic picture of the nozzle
3. Performance parameters (including throat values if applicable)
4. Schematic geometric representation
5. Capability for sensitivity analysis
6. Capability to “turn on” Augmentation (AB)

Criteria for success:

1. Accuracy, fidelity
2. Ease of use
3. Presentation (how easy is it to “see” everything)
4. Checks and balance
