Specification amwi6s4s STANDARDS ane o Adhesion Performance Requirements For Adhesive Backed Foam 1 Scope Note: Nothing inthis standard supercedes applicable laws and regulations Note; nthe event of confit belween the Ergish and domestic language, the English language shal tke once. This specication covers the adhesion porformance requirements of an adhesive backed foam which is bonded te painted oF unpainted metal, plastic or glass. it may also be used for other ight trim bonded with pressure sensitive adhesive. Adktional notes may be needed o spectically define the bonding application. 11 Material Description. Foams can be open of closed cel of vanfng polymer technologies. The adhesives of these pressure série witha release liner. The constuction can be applied on a component and shipped Part of Assembly (POA) or dolvered as a separate part for instalation at a GM Assombly Conter. The folowing types of bonsing performance for adhesive backed foam are covered in this specication, 1.2.Symbols. Not applicable. 1.3 Typical Applications. Typical applications include under foam gaskets, hood muckets, foam dams for windshields and Air Inlet Panels (AIP) and general air, dust and water seals such as seals and close-outs in lighting, See GMW15473 for specifi defintion and release of foam technology. 1.3.1 Type Performance. The folowing types are based upon adhesive performance. 1.3.1.1 Type I. An adhesive backed foam composite tht is entrapped and/or mectanicaly retained forthe lire che vehicle. The adhesive o his type is functional prio to and during instalation or until such time when the foam i entrapped andlor mechanically retained down ine trom the installed location. 1.3.1.2 Type ll. An adhesive backed foam composite that i retained by he adhesive forthe ile ofthe vehicle, 2 References g ‘Note: Only the latest approved standards are applicable unless otherwise speciied. 2.1 External Standards/Specifications. 80 168 SAE Je24t2 180 8510-2 2.2 GM Standards/Specitications.
