The present study illustrates the potential importance of maintaining the integrity of VM

donor tissue during its reparation for, and implantation into, animal models of Parkinson’s

disease (PD). Maintaining tissue integrity throughout implantation procedures offered the

possibility to increase the number of donor dopamine neurons surviving transplantation and

proved to be a better predictor of graft function based on dopamine cell content. Overall, the

study has allowed them to use less mature tissue on rats that have Parkinson’s disease to see if it

shows and improvement. There are a lot of room to improve but because it is still in testing state

there is no true results to the trials. “Though stem cells offer greater potential as a source of

dopaminergic neurons for cell replacement in PD in the future, the time course for generating a

stem cell-derived reservoir of neurons for clinical use is uncertain, and it could be the case that

maximizing the efficacy of the limited supply of primary cells/tissues in the short term is a route

worth continuing” This proves that even though the success rate is really low there is potential

for a great outcome.

Potential quotes that would help would be the current use of such a large number of

precisely aged donors is due mainly to the fact that a vast number of donor neurons are destroyed

during the preparation of cell suspensions for trans-plantation.”. “At 2 and 4 weeks following 6-

OHDA lesioning all animals in the study displayed an ipsilateral (to the lesion) rotation bias after

d-amphetamine administration.”. “Though ways to selectively preserve the A9 cells in primary

cell transplants needs further exploration, what is certain is that it will be crucial clinically to not

only consider how to maximize the number of TH + neurons available for grafting from each

donor, but to also increase the ratio of the A9 dopamine group in grafts to reduce variability in

outcomes for recipients [33,34] and better predict the functioning of the graft after

transplantation.”
The source is reliable because of these few factors. The first one is that the document is a

government source. The study was done in Keele University and also, they are able to show their

studies and they have permits for working on animals. Another reason it is credible is because all

the work has been credited if they used outside sources. Also, I found this source on Galileo

which is a major credible source.

The article fits well with my research because it gives a great perspective of different

kinds of research done by other scientists. This title adds a lot of insight from other point of

views. The article was a great help to my topic. I could use this article when I am talking about

different studies and the success rates of using the cells in Parkinson patients. I plan to combine

this work and other work from other people to see if the results are consistent with each other. To

come to a conclusion if using transplant cells to help Parkinson’s disease. Because I will not be

able to conduct my own research I will have to rely on other people’s works to come to a

conclusion.
