Learning Multiplications of 9
Learning multiplications of nine can be hard and tricky but with these simple
techniques we will learn the multiplication table of nine fast and easy.

What will be needed will be a white board/chalk board or a sheet of white paper
and pencil/pen.
A pair of hand will also be very useful for one of the methods.

What will be learning today will two methods to making the multiplication of 9
simple. (This will only cover to multiplying by 10)

The Table Method

9x1 9x2 9x3 9x4 9x5 9x6 9x7 9x8 9x9 9x10
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0
Tens place _____
Ones place _____

Notice a Pattern ???

As the numbers in the ones place decreases the number in the tens place increase

Another pattern would be that the Number in the tens place would be one digit
less than the number being multiplied by 9
Also, that the number in the ones place would be the subtraction from 10 minus the
number being multiplied by 9

Example 9x3 3-1=2

10-3=7

Using hands to help with the multiplications of 9.

Have both hand open face facing towards you (optional)

fingers start numbering from left hand thumb to right hand thumb
from one to ten.

When multiplying by a number place the number of the finger down and anything
left of the finger that was put down will be your tens place each finger is
equivalent to 10. Everything to the right of the finger put down will be your ones
place.
