Reflective Writing

This assignment helped me realize how amazing evolution is. The fact that a bat’s

lifespan is the same as a horse amazes me. Also, knowing how many seemingly small, molecular

advantages the Myotis brandtii has over other small mammals speaks volumes as to how

wonderful nature truly is.

I learned to communicate effectively as a scientist would. The style and approach is all

based on factual writing that will help me as I continue in the sciences. Opinion is up for debate,

but facts and substantial evidence speaks for itself.

I have learned to focus by having to refer to my biological knowledge to absorb

everything in the article that the scientists were performing on the bats. Being able to think

critically helped me to fully understand the language that species have, the genomes and the

amino acids that were manipulated.
