Rubric Defense

This project fits the criteria of the rubric given. The magazine design really
brought everything together, and allowed the information to be straight forward.

Complex Primary Sources:

 When looking at my primary sources, it was nice to have the magazine,
that way the interviews were simply converted into articles. Both
interviewees were asked similar questions, on the idea of plant-based
nutrition.
 The evidence, however differed due to their point of views being different.
On one side, there was a professional side, yet a first-hand vegan’s on the
other. Because of being on the professional spectrum, I feel that Saponaro
couldn’t give an opinion, rather she just get great informational details that
helped me greatly in the long run. When Snyder was kind enough to give
information from her experience while being a vegan.
 The major key phrase for my each source was “plant-based nutrition”.
While interviewing Saponaro, each question was solely around plant-
based health. Then the four main diet groups, vegan, vegetarian,
mediterranean, and flexitarian would certainly be my major key words,
since they are the plant-based eating habits focused on.
 Then, Saponaro claimed, throughout her interview, that plant-based eating
all depends on how each human processes the food, whether it is
technically “healthy” for them. Yet, Snyder claimed that going vegan
helped her become the best version of herself, and she feels more
connected to nature.
 Both primary sources made great impacts for my project. While
Saponaro’s information gave me a much deeper understanding than any of
my research had, Snyder’s interview opened my mind much more to
veganism than it was previously.

Noting Discrepancies:
 I got to see two views, a personal vegan view, and a professional dietitian
view as well.
 Once again, having the professional view, versus the vegan herself, gave
my project the chance to see some discrepancies in plant-based nutrition.
A professional view gave wonderful informative side, and answered many
questions.
 While the vegan view was more for seeing how a “whole-hearted” plant-
based diet, works out. In the end, having these two sources gave further
information on plant-based eating is strongly beneficial in multiple ways.
 My overall unification of an idea of plant-based nutrition came together with
my multiple websites, and primary sources. The idea of receiving more
health benefits from plant-based eating was supported by each of my
sources.

Synthesis Research:
 When forming my driving question I had to think of a way to word the
question, without it coming off as a biased question. Eventually I came up
with, ‘Can plant-based “diets” be a good eating habit for the human body?’,
which fit perfectly.
 I was then able to take all sources used for research, and compare them in
order to make them mesh well, as a whole, for my informational sections of
the project.
 With digging into each type of plant-based diet, and seeing the positives
and negatives of each, I was able to form a pretty well understanding of my
plant-based nutrition topic.

Relevant Sources:
 When it comes to my sources being simply relevant to my topic, I had to
double-check to see that the source was going to help further my
understanding of plant-based diets health.
 The sources I had used ranged from medical research, to simple digital
news articles.
 Each of the more “professional” types of sources were great for research
information. They had more of a tendency to answer any question I may
have, but one or two of them were almost to wordy to where I seemed to
lose the point of the research. When looking at the more casual sites, they
were more likely to give opinions/side thoughts in their writing.
 Almost each one of my sources gave my projet great, practically equal
information that I was able to use for my magazine.
 My magazine written was done completely from my perspective. As the
author it was my job to give information in my own wording.
 When citing my sources, I used easybib, which helped me put them in
MLA format.

Overall, the final product turned out better than I had thought it would towards
the beginning. Between my sources giving great information, and my patience
while hunting for deep, beneficial research coming together fluidly, I would say
this project had one of the best outcomes so far.
