Teaching Ideas and Notes:
Word Cards—pgs. 3-4: We use these word cards in a number of ways:
 Use these as vocabulary cards. Have your child draw a card and tell you the meaning of
each word.
 Story recall—Have your child draw a card and then tell you how it relates to the story.
For example: Your child draws the word ‘gate.’ She could say, “Peter couldn’t remember
the way back to the gate.”
Another response could be, “Peter squirmed under the gate so Mr. McGregor didn’t catch
him!”
 Have each child choose a card and write one sentence using the word.

Question Cards—pgs. 5-6:

Place all cards in the middle of the table. Taking turns, each person draws a card and answers.
This is a favorite activity at our house! In a school setting, you could have several sets of cards
and do this activity in small groups.

Mrs. Rabbit Coloring Page—pg. 7:

There is plenty of room left on the page for your child to draw in all of the extras—the contents
of her basket, the sky, the path she’s walking along, etc. Encourage them to be creative! You
could even print Mrs. Rabbit on card stock and use water colors to paint in the details

Onomatopoeia Flippers—pg. 9:
Cut out each large rectangle on the dark black lines. You should now have 2 large rectangles with
4 pictures on each rectangle.
Fold each rectangle down the middle on the light gray line. Then carefully cut each smaller rec-
tangle so the book will flip for each picture.
Glue the 2 rectangle pieces onto a piece of construction paper.
Finally, brainstorm the words that each of the pictures describe. Color if desired!

Book Report Pages—pgs. 13-16:

The book reports included in this packet contain the same questions. The only difference is the
formatting—one report is plain lines and the other contains elementary lines.

Handwriting Practice—pgs. 17-19:

Complete a page each day you read the book, or use as one large handwriting practice activity.
These pages are also a helpful resource to reinforce vocabulary words in the book.
