The radio network planning process is designed to maximize the Network coverage, whilst at the same time providing the desired capacity. In order to achieve this, there are a number of steps that are typically performed, these include: dimensioning, detailed planning and optimization (pre- launch and post-launch optimization).

Dimensioning is the initial phase of network planning. It provides the first estimation of the network coverage and capacity.
