CHPATER I: LTE Radio planning and Dimensioning

The radio network planning process is designed to maximize the Network coverage, whilst at the
same time providing the desired capacity. In order to achieve this, there are a number of steps that
are typically performed, these include: dimensioning, detailed planning and optimization (pre-
launch and post-launch optimization).

1.2 LTE Dimensioning:

Dimensioning is the initial phase of network planning. It provides the first estimation of the network
coverage and capacity. The purpose of dimensioning is to estimate the required number of radio
base stations needed to support a specified traffic load in an area.
