New poll tests Mississippi voters’ opinions on

2018 US Senate elections

Fielded on April 10th and 11th this Mississippi statewide survey was conducted for Y’all Politics
by Triumph Campaigns to measure voter opinions on statewide elections in 2018.

KEY FINDINGS
On the 4-way ballot for the November 6th election to replace Senator Thad Cochran, US Senator
Cindy Hyde-Smith and former Secretary of Agriculture Mike Espy are tied, while State Senator
Chris McDaniel and Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton trail far behind.

Hyde-Smith leads Espy in a potential run-off 42% to 36%, while McDaniel trails Espy 24% to
43%. Hyde-Smith’s favorable are strong at 32% favorable / 16% unfavorable, and she has lots
of room to grow with 53% of voters currently undecided.

It seems Chris McDaniel made a mistake by waiting so long to officially get out of the race
against Wicker. The ads run by Wicker in late March seem to have taken a toll on McDaniel.
Chris McDaniel’s image in this poll has deteriorated to 18% favorable / 42% unfavorable. In this
survey, Republicans prefer Wicker over McDaniel by a 4 to 1 margin at 66% Wicker / 16%
McDaniel.

In the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate to see which Democrat will face Senator Wicker this
fall, State Representative Omeria Scott currently leads the pack with 9%. These candidates are
not well known, and the vast majority of voters (79%) are undecided in this race.

METHODOLOGY

This was an automated telephone survey conducted by Triumph Campaigns in which 1,000
self-identified likely general election voters statewide were interviewed. A survey of this size
has a margin of error of +/- 3%. This survey was conducted on April 10th and 11th.
