DBQ ESSAY

​Colonialism had negative effect on kenya because of their education,economics


and environment. The negative effects on the economic were that the africans did not
have a lot of money , Kenyans had to earn their money by working. The negative effect
on the education was Africans/Kenyans were not forced to go to school (Education Not
Compulsory) . The negative effect on the environment was that they didn't have a king
or rules.
Colonialism had negative effects on Kenyans education. There was negative effects
on kenya because Education was not compulsory . meaning they were not being forced
to learn. Every kenyan child didn't get a chance to have a secondary education.
Europeans built schools for the Kenyans to learn but, Kenyans were taught in
something they didn't want to learn/want to believe in . The british culture was taught to
Kenyans . In document 10 it states that , 3,442 schools for 395,000 students 1%
received secondary education. That is a very low percentage of Kenyan education.
Colonialism had negatives effect on kenya’s economics . There was not much money
saved in africa . Money was earned but not much . IN document 12 shows the amount
of money earned in agriculture during the 1940’s and 1950’s was greater for the
european men than any other group. The africans make the least amount of money.
African kids (juveniles) were working . In document 12 The money the kenyan juveniles
made increased little by little . Starting from 1946-1955 The amount that was earned
was , $13,$16,$20,$24, and $31.
Colonialism had negative effects on Kenyans environment. The african nation of kenya
was created by the europeans .
The land of the Kenyans was taking over and there were trains built for transportation
and the Kenyans/african household had to pay “hut tax” during imperialism . They only
had to pay for what the europeans built on there land (schools, trains, etc). British
began to construct a 700-mile long the railroad that ran across kenya from mombasa
Overall , Colonialism had a bad effect on kenya , took over their land. British came and
built things on their land the Kenyans had to pay hut tax for , School were built and The
christianity and european culture was taught , and The Kenyans were taught a culture
they didn't want to believe in.
