Good morning everyone; Farming, a primary source of materials and resources and a factor for
success in the community. But according to Manila bulletin on 2014 that the average age of a farmer is
40, scary to think that for the next 30 to 40 years that these farmers may be gone. Alarming isn’t it?
Agriculture has an image problem. For the majority of the world’s youth, agriculture isn’t an attractive
avenue of employment. Most youth think of it as back-breaking labor without an economic pay-off and
little room for career advancement. What could be the solution? Engagement to agricultural activities,
engagement to these does not mean that we would be farmers, no it means that we widen our eyes, we
fill our knowledge, and hone our skills and craft, about what? About agriculture, engaging to these
activities means that we are active and that we help not only ourselves but the community as well,
How? Entrepreneurship, a lot of people met their success, banana chips, irrigation, livestock, even arts
and crafts are all part of entrepreneurship that is connected to agriculture.

How do we hone this, 4-H. the 4-H name represents four personal development areas of focus
for the organization: head, heart, hands, and health. The goal of 4-H is to develop citizenship,
leadership, responsibility and life skills of youth through experiential learning programs and a positive
youth development approach. The four H’s (head, heart, hands and health) represent four basic human
needs: independence, belonging, generosity and mastery. Research indicates that youth whose basic
needs are met in positive ways are likely to grow into active citizens and contributing members of their
families and communities. By combining project activities with opportunities to go to camp, publicly
show their work, travel, host international youth and attend meetings and events, 4-H provides a
framework on which young people can build self-confidence, responsibility and generosity. Members of
4-H clubs are involved in a long-term relationship with caring adults, who help them learn new skills and
grow in ways traditional educational experiences aren’t designed to do. A positive 4-H Club experience
can turn life around for an at-risk youth or bring a shy child out of their shell, It can also strengthen
leadership skills or teach the importance of community service.

The 51 year old Emely dreamed of becoming an accountant on her early years but it was not
realized for due to financial constraints, but instead her parents suggested her to take the agriculture
course. Her undertaking as an extension worker started way back 1984 when she was elected as a
Secretary of the 4-H Club at Barangay San Luis, Rosales, Pangasinan. She actively participated in all the
activities of the association and was involved in some of the activities of the municipal agriculture office;
as a result she was hired as casual employee of the Department of Agriculture in 1986. On the same
year, she was employed as contractual Agricultural Technologist (AT) for the five (5) year program of the
DA-Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP). Here she learned different strategies, thechniques
and methodologies in conducting programs for the organization.

Michael comes from a family of professionals. He finished his course in Business Administration
major in Agribusiness from De La Salle University in Dasmariñas, Cavite. Likewise, all his siblings have
bachelor degrees on their chosen field of specialization. His mother is a registered nurse and his father is
an agribusiness graduate. Despite being born to a well-off family, their parents trained them in the farm.
And thus became successful in sili farming

Aside from beaches, mountains and bodies of water, farm lands are among the archipelago's
most prominent natural features. Enterprising farmers look forward to a rustic and relaxing weekend
getaway for a back-to-basics escape. Nowadays, farms have metamorphosed from being simple
plantations to unique travel destinations showcasing the country's fertile soil where everything can
grow. Organized by the International School of Sustainable Tourism (ISST) and supported by the
Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), the Department of Agriculture
(DA), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Department of Trade and
Industry (DTI), the Provincial Government of Cavite, the Municipal Government of Tagaytay, and the
private sector, the three-day confab will put the spotlight on the unique fusion of farming and tourism.

See these are not only good for yourself these are also good and helpful to the government and
to the community as this is not only innovative, but supported by the governors themselves.

So what is my point, what is my stand, what im going to is to tell everyone to engage in

agricultural activities because not only it makes us awake to environmental problems it also makes us a
better and a social person as well as a leader, things such as entrepreneurship and even farm tourisms
do help a lot, physically, socially and economically. And as well that clubs such as the 4-H not only helps
the community, but also it’s members.
