Chaplaincy at Stepping Hill Hospital

Hospital Open Day. September 25th 12.00 noon - 4.00 pm. Doris Walker
Lots of displays and talks around the hospital, including Congratulations to Doris Walker who recently

Everybody Welcome
Last Sunday we began a new morning sermon series focussing
on the topic of welcome. It is linked to the course, Everybody
Welcome, which will form the basis for our home group
meetings over the next couple of months. If you are interested
in going a group, even temporarily, please contact Malcolm.

The first men’s group meeting since July will be held on
Wednesday 22 September commencing at 8.15pm in the
lower lounge. This will be a ‘regular’ meeting – we’ll be
thinking about whether its OK to burn the Koran or build
a mosque near Ground Zero - followed by a visit to The
Printer’s Arms. More details from Mike, Rob or Gary.
Avondale Recreation Leisure Centre
ARC is one of the few public resources left in Cheadle Heath is
used by a wide range of community groups. Stockport Sports Trust
and Stockport Council recently announced its closure with poorly
constructed arguments and no consultation. The result was a public
protest a week last Thursday as a result of which the decision was
deferred to the SMBC scrutiny Committee which reports this week.
If you wish to express your support for Avondale please attend the
further protest this Thursday at 5pm outside the Town Hall and also
the scrutiny committee in the ballroom following at 6pm.
St Cuthbert Labyrinth
Five years ago, a group from St Cuthbert's set out to walk the 100km route called, 'the St
Cuthbert's Way' to help raise money to rebuild the church. The walk goes from Melrose in
Scotland, to Lindisfarne in the North East, going through various places that were
significant in St Cuthbert's life. The St Cuthbert's Way labyrinth has been designed to help
people pray, by using reminders of the St Cuthbert's Way walk and stories from the life of
St Cuthbert. On Sunday, 26th September from 4 to 8pm, take a journey around St
Cuthbert's; read about the life and work of St Cuthbert and find out how Cuthbert's story
can help you pray. Come and be quiet, come and light a candle, come and get creative.
‘Sweet Tastes of Heaven’
Our next event for women will be a pudding tasting event. This will be on Friday 1st
October from 7.30 - 9.30 and held (hopefully) in the Upper Room. Tickets will be on sale in
September for £3, which includes a copy of the recipe book. If you would like to take part
please see John Berry.
Saturday Café
Commences 02 October 9.30 -11.30am though on this occasion it will not tie in with the
Abney Run. Hot rolls, filter coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice and free newspapers will
be available as well as Wi Fi. Please call down and meet friends old and new.
Harvest Thanksgiving 03 October

and TEAR Fund.
o As per usual we would like people to bring practical
gifts for distribution by City Centre Ministries This
harvest, they would really appreciate donations of:

instant hot chocolate (the ones made up with water
only, not milk), coffee, cup-a-soups, toiletries, socks, hats and gloves. For more

Abney 5K Run
Please pass on the details of this event to anyone you think may be interested – flyers are
available in the foyer – and also, if you are able, make yourself available as a helper on the
day. A sign up sheet is on the noticeboard.
St Cuthbert’s Houseparty
Please make a note in your diary and plan to join us at The Quinta for the
weekend of 16 & 17 April (Palm Sunday) next year. Theme is – pro tem –
‘Running on empty’ with guest speaker Steve Wilcockson. We have
booked extra spaces this time so that the maximum possible number will be
able to attend.
