Hello there!
My name is Mia Katarina, but you can call me
Mia.
I am a 22 year old and I come from Croatia.
I finished my studies as a Multimedia Designer
and now I’m finishing my Web Development
Bachelor.
And this right here is my portfolio, divided into
two categories.
First one contains most significant projects I
have done within my 3 year education.
Second one contains projects I have dedicated
to in my spare time.
I hope you’ll like it!

Chronology

One of the first projects from Multimedia Design

and Communication studies at University College
Nordjylland. The task was to create a website
solution for a young gaming company that needed
to advertise their new adventure platform game
called Chronology.

Since the game itself had a pretty straightforward

and simple concept, the solution turned out to be a
simple scrollable landing page.
The page itself was consisted out of graphics from
the game and short teasers of the game, with the
trailer as the main point of the page.

Nibe Bryghus

Making a website for a brewery was the next

step in advancing my frontend and graphic design
skills. But, more important than that was the fact
that for this part of the curriculum, the focus was
on getting familiar with research and its methods.
By using quantitative and qualitative methods
such as a forum poll and commentaries, research-
ing the target audience and its preferences, the
whole visual was created.

The top illustration together with smaller Javas-

cript effects (smooth scrolling, tile flipping)
concluded with a successful product.
The client picked it out as one of the best solutions
amongst Multimedia class.

The Mind Game

One of my favorite and most engaging projects

was definitely this one.
I finally was able to do something that really got splash screen
me interested in creating games and more of in-
teractive and educational material.
The client was Aalborg University, and the prob-
lem at hand was how to create a solution for dys-
lexic children which can engage them in active
reading and correcting their problem.
The main concept of the game is to click on the
tiles which contain correctly spelled words. When
clicked correct, Javascript function adds up to your
current points status. On the other hand, there are menu with
tiles that contain wrongly spelled words. Clicking play button instructions
on them decreases the number of points. and level select

Not to make it too simple, other factors also play

a significant role, such as the lenght of the words
which increases when a level is finished and
speed which increases with the level of complexity
of the words.

TrustUs App

Next chapter in furthering my development skills

was getting admitted to Web Development in
Roskilde, at Zealand Institute of Business and
Technology.
Final project in the end of first semester was to
make an application which would help to improve
shopping experience. The client was non-existent,
so there was a complete freedom in choosing to-
wards what would this shopping experience prob-
lem be directed.

The decision was to make sort of a Yelp/ Trustpilot

review app which would have all the users stored
in a MongoDB database together with their writ-
ten reviews.

The reviews would get ranked on the front page,

where using Angular you could upvote a certain
review and make it display higher on the front-
page.

Learning how to develop with Umbraco Content

Management System while using the Razor syn-
tax (C#) was also a part of my Web Development
curriculum. This project has a special meaning for
the technical aspect it has introduced me too. I
have been familiar with C# ever since Multimedia,
and this project reintroduced me to it, since I had
to make an online portfolio from scratch.

It turned out to be a portfolio of my photography

works, which I styled with the help of SASS and
Foundation framework.

Tech Sam

Internship abroad tends to enrich a person both

personality-wise, but most definitely skill-wise. At
least I can speak for myself.

My internship took place in the Northern UK, city

called Sunderland. I was working as a webmaster
and graphic designer for a company called RGB
Media.

Biggest project I have worked on there was called

Technology Sam. I had to think of the entire brand
look for a startup company which helped elderly
people learn to use modern technology.

This is where I started to get interested in charac-

ter design and started to develop a certain style.

HOBBIES

Photography

As I mentioned in my CMS Works section, one of

my interest I have been investing in since my early
teens was photography.

My main interest is composition and textures.

Usually taking pictures in black and white, I love
to play with shadows and contrasts, without color
interfering.

I believe there is deep impact photography can

make, both on the literal, visual aspect, and sym-
bolical, underlying aspect. That is why it appeals
to me, and often I look to encompass these traits
of photography in all of my works within other
media.

On Air

One of my favorite things in the world and my

all-time favorite interest is music. Long story short,
I have been involved in it for 14 years, from choir
to piano playing.

Therefore, when I came to Denmark I wanted to

continue my music engagement, so I joined Aal-
borg Student Radio. I volunteered as a host and a
graphic designer.

On Air Festival was my first big gig as a graphic

designer, so I decided to use most from it.
The festival’s brand was changed, which conclud-
ed in a new logo, t-shirt design and poster design.

Tools: Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects

Palata No6

First experience as a freelancer can often be a

pretty scary one, considering you are agreeing to
an endless cycle of back-and-forths, not being
sure if your design is even going to be selected
from the client as the winning one.

Palata No6 is a clothing store located in Berlin

which needed a logo design for it’s opening.
The owner was inspired by Audrey Hepburn and
wanted to somehow incorporate her spirit in the
brand, so I started thinking of character design,
just like with Technology Sam.

Since I already had a style that I liked, the design

came out quite easily. Playing around with lines
and contures and making minimalist characters
definitely became more persistent in my artistic
style.
