Project Name: Copper Coating

Name: José Antonio Morales Bautista

Schoolmaster: Jorge Cruz Salinas

OBJECTIVE
Make a coating based on copper sulphate on the knurled screw, achieving the
highest percentage of adhesion on the piece.

MATERIAL OR EQUIPMENT
 Degreaser of sodium hydroxide
 Distilled water
 10% Sulfuric acid
 Copper sulphate
 Electricity conductor cable
 Two pieces of copper to drive
 24 volt power supply
 Glass container

METHOD
Analyze the substances that will be used, know the risks and precautions to
administer them.
The method used as equipment was provided by the teacher and consisted of
submerging the piece for cleaning and proceed to the process of copper.
PROCESS
1.-As the first step, the solution based on copper sulphate was developed, 150 g of
copper sulphate was diluted in 750 ml of water, because for each liter of water. I
needed 200 gr.

2.- Then we proceeded to make the sulfuric acid solution, this solution was 95% so
it was diluted to 10%

3.- It was submerged in distilled water, to release the sulfuric acid.

4.- Finally we connect the source with cables, the negative to a piece of copper for
the conduction and the positive one is connected to the submerged piece for 7 min
until acquiring the copper.

RESULTS
CONCLUSION
The purpose of applying a metallic coating is to protect oneself from corrosion to a
cheaper metal. For this, the most effective is to choose how to protect another
located in the series of electromotive forces above the one to be protected.
In practice we learned how the elaboration of the copper is carried out, taking into
account the handling of dangerous substances but that are of great use as providing
hardness or aesthetics in the materials.
