RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF AB 931 RE: USE OF FORCE BY PEACE

OFFICERS
WHEREAS, “In 2016, 1,729 peace officers in the State of California were
involved in incidents that involved the discharge of a firearm or use of force
resulting in serious bodily injury or death,” according to the California Department
of Justice; and
WHEREAS, these injuries and homicides are a health and safety issue; and
WHEREAS, these injuries and homicides disproportionately effect the African
American community;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the California Democratic Party African
American Caucus supports the spirit of Assembly Bill 931 regarding use of force
by peace officers; and
THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the California Democratic Party
African American Caucus encourages the members of the California State
Legislature and the governor of the State of California to work with the bill’s
authors, Shirley Weber and Kevin McCarty, to enact the bill into law.
