Radiation
-Energy that travels through empty space (not
through anything)
- moves in waves - some have smaller waves, some
bigger
- Speed is same for all radiation - called a constant
Heat

- is a form of radiation called infrared

- adding increases temperature
- taking away decreases temperature
Light
- radiation that is visible to the human eye
- blue light has a smaller wavelength than red
Absorption - energy taken into an object

Reflection - energy hitting an object and

going off in another direction
 White light
• Contains all the colors of light together
 Color of objects
• Objects appear the color that they are
because it is the wavelength of light they
reflect
• Example: Red shirt absorbs all other
wavelengths but reflects away the red
wavelength.
What does that mean about
color vs. heat object?
• Black absorbs all colors of light = greater
heating
• white reflects all colors of light = less heating
• Objects appear the color they are because
they reflect that color of light.
