For this assessment the students were asked to show their knowledge on the civil rights movement, by writing a
paragraph using their own words. (this was an open note test.).
llcopied and pasted directly from the supplied secondary source regarding Malcolm X(Stanford EDU).
She copied from the intro of the article and used it as an opening for her paragraph. lldoes have some difficulties
with analyzing the readings sometimes, it is important that she participates more in small and large group discussion.
Participation, could be her just listening to the group. Often times she is not actively listening and staring off into the
dista nce.

Good morning,
Thanks for the communication and for the offer to allowtfto retake the test with a possible maximum grade
of attD.t'

I'm not entirely sure I understand what happened. We've spoken about this several times. At one point, she felt
she copied information that she herself had written in another document based on other sources. Perhaps she
should have paraphrased in the first document? Or was she to have cited sources on the actual test?

I have not seen the test or the documents myself, but am interested to understand better and try to helpJ
improve her approach.

I believe one of the problems is thatf has difficulty translating things into her own words at a basic
level. She also doesn't feel comfortable asking for help, and this can be problematic.

I appreciate allyou are doing to support her learning and gaining a solid work ethic.

Sincerely,

harsh, considering she is a 7th grader, I want this to be a learning experience and do not want to discourage
her. Additionally, I gradedC next assessment (a paragraph of the Chinese Exclusion Act), and she did very well on it.

Also, I am glailenjoys Social Studies, that is good to hear.
