Analysis Artifact

The artifact that I’m going to be writing about is an essay I wrote based on a book called
“Into the Wild”. This artifact was given to me by my English teacher in my ERWC class. In
order to receive my artifact I had to write about McCandless which is the main character of “Into
the Wild”. I received my artifact in my first semester of my senior year. My artifact is a draft that
my teacher graded and gave back to me in order to write my final draft.

This essay is an artifact that is an accomplishment to me because it showed me that I am

capable of writing my own argumentative essay. To receive this artifact I had to start with my
main topic and have three strong supporting pieces of evidence. This artifact is special to me
because this is the first time I got to write an essay about a book that captivated me. I made sure
that I did my best in order to get an exceptional grade.

The SLO’s that I demonstrated the most in this artifact was willing collaborator and
effective communicator. I was a willing collaborator by talking to my group about the choices
McCandless did through the book. My group brainstormed is order to find the main reasons why
McCandless isolated himself from society. I was also an effective communicator by reading my
essay to my classmates and my family in order to inform and persuade them about why
McCandless was arrogant and did what he did throughout the story.

This essay has helped me improve my argumentative writing skills. I am able to use these
skills in the future when I go to college. Writing this essay has helped me realize that an essay
that is mostly based on an argument needs to have strong evidence and a strong hook in order to
persuade the reader. Based on my rough draft, I need to improve on my spelling and where I
place my commas.
