Contemporary IV

Class 10

Movement Notes: Shechner’s Framework:

February 22, 2018

Process I:

• Interaction with Found Space

o Tendency toward circular movement
o Familiar shapes derived from familiarity with environment of the room
o Less Interaction with dancers around myself
o Tendency to stay a one pace for large amount for times’
o Slow rate of transfer between one object to another (when object was introduced)
o Movement slightly changed with the change of music introduced to the
environment

Process II:

• Interaction with Transformed Space

o More investigation with objects in space
o Movement initiated by the environment rather than the dancer
o More Interaction between dancers
o Change in dynamic in speed
o Transition from sharp movement to flowy depending on music
o More interaction between dancers with objects introduced

Overall Experiences:

• What was the most influential aspect of this exercise?

o The environment seemed to influence my movement choices as well as serve as
inspiration for generating movement. The effects that music, space, objects,
dancers, seemed to either to build or restrict my choreographic process depending
on what was introduced into the environment

• What process seemed most beneficial to your choreographic process?

o Because of responsibility in creating transformed space, process II seemed to aid
me in generating movement and creating dynamics as well as be more involved in
the transfer of energy between dancers.
