The concepts I wanted the students to take away from this lesson were assessed in the quiz.

These concepts were not content related, but asked the students their thoughts on diversity

and what was discussed in class. I did this because although the content of science is the focus

of my class, it is also very helpful to use science to address social issues such as diversity. It is

clear in the data that all of the students were able to take away something from the lesson. The

students who did not score above 12 scored lower because they did not put forth enough effort

(I.e. one word answers when they should have had an explanation). The class average was an

87% which does exhibit mastery, and would have been higher had those lower scoring students

made more effort.
