This project is held by Geumjeonggu office of Busan city. With them, Seodong, a place aiming at
energizing local traditional market and mingling daily life with art will have activities to make the
market become more lively and active through international volunteers. Seodong has a historical
significance. During the Korean-war, many refugees moved to Busan which is located in the
southern part of Korea. And the Korean government forced the refugees move to Seodong and it
remains very congested till today.

Geumjeonggu aims to dynamize this unstructured village to a more local-friendly art space with
various programs including global citizenship education and cultural-artistic activities to the local
children and residents through various activities. Although Busan is the second largest city in Korea,
opportunities to take a chance to take part in global citizenship education and cultural experience
program are not common. Through this program and events, residents in Seodong will consider
more familiar and specialize their village as global one.
