What is matter: matter is anything that has mass and occupies space (volume).
Ex: Kitten, tims cup, helium balloons, (not matter: energy, heat, things that are intangible
(love)).
Matter: These things have mass (can be put on a scale and measured, even if their mass is very,
very tiny.) YOU CAN GRAB IT!
Not Matter: These things cannot be put on a scale and measure; they do not occupy space.
(THOUGHTS, LOVE).
Physical changes: Appearance changes but substance does not change, change in state (i.e.:
solid to liquid)
Example: boiling water for your tea, breaking a pen, cutting paper
Chemical changes: substance does change, chemical reaction occurs, create a new product
(H2O -> H2 + 02)
EX: bubbles, cloudy, temperature change, color change, change in smell/taste
Apple: Before (Apple) After (Reacts with o2, in the air to form brown spots
