1st Grade Spelling- Months of the Year

Idaho Core State Standard: CCRA.L.1.2 Demonstrate command of the
conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.

Objectives:

 Students will be able to identify each month/order they come in.

 Students will be able to articulate the months.

 Students can correctly spell each month.

 Understand that each month is always capitalized.

 Write the date using a comma in the correct spot.

Procedure:

1. Go through the PowerPoint (15 minutes)

2. Review the months and spell each month as a class after the PowerPoint (5 minutes)
3. Take spelling test on the months and write the full date correctly
4. Hand in their test

Questions to Ask During Powerpoint:

 What is todays date and how do you write it?

 How do you spell (blank) month?
 Who can say all twelve months?
 What are two facts that we learned?

Materials/Equipment Needed:

 Overhead Projector, Screen

 PowerPoint

 Pencils

 Scratch Paper for Quiz

Method of Evaluation:

 Assessment
  Throughout the PP, quiz students on how to spell the month, and write the date
correctly.

 After the PP is finished, take a spelling test on the months.
