Contemporized Sonnet 138

My girlfriend says she has not lied to me.

She thinks this true but I know that she lies,
I act as if she speaks truth; that’s the key.
That is the key, it is a compromise.
We pretend we don't see imperfections
Of each other as if they don’t exist.
We don’t even want to pay attention
To these faults we have; there would be a list.
Of the things we don't like of each other,
We find a way to make it work and yet,
Despite our faults we love one another,
That is the fact that we will not forget.
Even with all of this mindless lying,
We'll stay together ‘til we are dying.

Parallelism: Come love, come lies.

Alliteration: Lovers learn to live with lies.
Personification: Love feasts on lies to live.
Paradox: To love, one must accept what they do not love.
